Lettering

A phrenological album "This album is to illustrate phrenology. It is an original idea and will supply examples to any author who wishes to write a new work on the only true science of the human mind. The classification of the organs appears to the inventor of the album to be more natural and more gratifying than the one published in other books on phrenology although any person who prefers the common classification may easily gratify his desire by consulting the index. The care it requires to form such an album as the present is much greater than could be previously imagined, and it must appear even to the mere tyro in phrenology that both discrimination and judgment are very necessary in making a proper selection from the portraits of remarkable characters to illustrate the various propensities, moral sentiments and intellectual faculties of the human family. Joseph Marriott, 1850" (Introduction, p. 4)
