    PREFACE. The Author’s earliest suggestions relative to an improved method of treating Cataract, were conveyed to the public, through the medium of the London Medical Journals, in 1812. Those hints, in the course of the following year, assumed the more regular and systematic form of a treatise, in which were embodied such additional facts and observations as subsequent experience had supplied. The work, in that shape, ob¬ tained the very flattering notice of the contemporary Reviews ; and in conse¬ quence, probably, of their sanction and recommendation, the whole impression was disposed of within a few months.
