    s*cs were paid making a total of 1876 visits paid during the year, st year 1965 visits were paid. ANTE-NATAL AND POST-NATAL EXAMINATIONS. 0 women were examined ante-natally by private medical practitioners 1947 - an improvement on last year’s figure of 56. 32 woman were armed once, 14 twice and 4 three times. There were no poet-natal am:nations reported to mo. The following abnormalities were scoverea from*these examinations suffered from gross dental sepsis; 10 from varicose veins; 8 from buminuria; 6 from slight degrees of pelvic contraction; in 4 the fant’s head was not presenting normally? in 3 the mother was anaemic; 2 the mother was very obese; 1 mooher suffered from peptic ulcer; from high blood.pressure; 1 from discharge; 1 was Rhesus negative I 1 was epileptic. Twins were diagnosed and confirmed by X-ray in 3 mother. 3 scope of the examination undertaken by the 20 practitioners iotising in Rutland varies very much. 3 examiner takes the blood of every patient sent him by midwives and took the blood of 29 for the blood tests of syphilis and gonorrhoea, 3 Riicsus factor and the estimation for haemoglobin. One other Iminer* took the bJood for the same examinations and another for the ssermann reaction and gonococcal complement fixation tests. There re no reports- from other practitioners as to whether the blood sts had been taken. THE YORK OF THE CONSULTANT OBSTETRICIAN AND CONFINEMENTS IN INSTITUTIONS s following patients were referred to Dr. Till, or were admitted to stitutions s. H.C. Was seen by Dr. Till in consultation with her doctor. She had had 3 living children and one premature child who lived a few hours. Manual removal of the afterbirth had to be undertaken. Puerperal infection followed and sho was removed to an Isolation hospital. Upon examination ' was found that the membranes had been ruptured. Dr. Till considered that spontaneous delivery would occur and that there, was no need for admission to hospital, unless sepsis occurred. Things were to be left till April 1st 1947 when if no further progress was made he would be prepared to admit her for medical induction. There was little or no prospect of the survival of the expected child. She was delivered of a stillbirth. s_» H.S. Was referred to Dr. Till on account of pelvic contraction. He reported that although the patient was undersized her pelvis was apparently gynaecoid in shape and her measurements did not show a hopeless degree of contraction*.
