About this work

Description

Herbal medicine. Artemisia absinthium (Wormwood). Tall stemmed composite leafed plant with meagre yellow flowers. Used to make the alcoholic liqueur Absinthe which was banned in 1915 because the plant's neurotoxic chemicals caused hallucinations and brain damage. Also used as an anthelmintic, diuretic and laxative. The plant was hung indoors to expel fleas, insects and moths.
