Description

Darin sehr kräfftige Segen und Gebett, theils von Gottleslahret, theils von Kirchens Heiligen Vätern gemacht und von Urbano VIII Römischer Pabst approbirt worden. Illustrated with rough pen-drawings of magical figures, sigils, etc. The first part to Fol. 148 contains a collection of magical prayers, incantations, charms, etc. including (ff. 28-40) 'Harmonia numerorum ad formam geomantiae disposita': all in German. The date 1674 is found on fol. 27. Ff. 187-end contain medical receipts by the same hand. Ff. 153v-167v contain entries on occult subjects in which dates from 1812 to 1839 are found, and it is possible that the script of this section is by the same hand.

1 volume 274 ll. (last bl.). 16mo. 101/2 × 6 cm. Original vellum binding, with two brass and vellum claps. Title and headings in red, a few in green: text within red rules. A foliation has been added in pencil.

Ownership note

A note pasted inside the upper cover, also in German, states that the unnamed owner acquired the volume from the 'Pastor Guardian' of the Benedictine Monastery at Gerode in March 1789. This owner had made additions to the magical part of this MS. about the end of the century, and perhaps later also.
