Description

Autograph letters collected by George Grey Turner, mainly written by doctors and scientists. Writers include Thomas Bewick (4-5), Sir George Burrows (6), Sir Astley Cooper (8), George James Guthrie (11), Sir Henry Halford (14), Sir Hubert von Herkomer (15), Sir Edwin Landseer, with a sketch of a dog (19-20), Dominique Larrey (22), Joseph Lister (25-26), Robert Liston (27), Sir John Everett Millais, with sketches of croquet players (30), Florence Nightingale (33), Sir Richard Owen (34-36), Sir James Paget (37), Sir Henry Thompson (44-49), and Sir Thomas Watson (54). The earliest document is an order of the Committee of the Lords and Commons for His Majesty's Revenue for a payment to Henry Garrett, falconer, 11 March 1647 (signed as a receipt, 23 March 1647). There are also four letters received by Sir Thomas Lauder Brunton from various correspondents, and one letter by him, 1906-08 (57-61).
