The last in a four-part series in which Robert Winston explores the relationship between the music and medical conditions of renowned composers. This part features Ivor Gurney, an English poet and composer. It was thought that Gurney suffered shell-shock following his experiences in the trenches of WWI but it now seems that his mental health was actually helped by the comradeship and excitement of war. Anthony Boden and others describe how Gurney was suicidally depressed even before the war. The programme includes many examples of Gurney's music.
