About this work
Description
Buddha is the name given to both the founder of Buddhism and a teacher of Buddhism. The Bhaisajyaguru or “Medicine Buddha” is venerated as a healer of both mind and body. This bronze statue was once brightly coloured in green, red, purple and gold and may have been placed in a temple or in a shrine in the home.
In India the origins and development of the medical tradition of Ayurveda are strongly linked to the religious beliefs and teachings of first Buddhism and then Hinduism.
