Letter from S P Woodward to Mrs Fitch, thanking her for the fossil sea urchin specimens and discussing packing and cleaning of other specimens to be sent to him and Mr Sharpe. This letter is pasted into a separate sheet on which is written biographical details of S P Woodward 1821-1865.

Biographical note

Second son of Samuel Woodward (see MS.8007/60). Naturalist, geologist and botanist. In 1839 he became curator of the Geological Society of London. In 1845 appointed Professor of Botany and Geology in the Royal Agricultural College and in 1848 first-class Assistant in the department of Geology and Minerology in the British Museum.
