Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-related lymphoproliferative disease
This image shows the same lymph node biopsy as images W0047334 and W0047335 from a patient with HIV, lymphadenopathy and EBV infection. It shows several B cells with positive staining for EBV (human herpesvirus 4 [HHV-4]) latent membrane protein. This is the non-replicating component of EBV and is observed in reactive lymph nodes stimulated by EBV. Immunocytochemical immunoperoxidase against latent membrane protein.
The pathology is similar to that of acute infectious mononucleosis in the lymph nodes of non-immunosuppressed patients (but in them it regresses).
