About this work
Description
"Paradise Postponed" - 10-minute item describing a drug trial at the Kennedy Institute, London, in which rheumatoid arthritis sufferers tested a drug designed to combat the tumenocrosis factor (TNF), the molecule responsible for the destruction of cartilage cells. Those taking part in the trial found it highly beneficial; patients regained the use of the joints and experienced a new lease of life - but because the drug had to undergo further tests before it could be marketed, participants were unable to continue with it once the trial was over. They describe their dismay at regressing to their former condition.
