About this work

Description

Skin cells from the blistered area of a scald. The scald resulted from contact with boiling soup spilt on the hand. The scald covered an area about 4cm in length x 1cm width and due to severe blistering the height of the area was about 1cm. Cells were taken from a relatively small area (1mm x 1mm) once the blistering had subsided a bit but the cells that are seen in the image were all at one stage completely blistered. Wellcome Image Award winner 2009 Wellcome Image Awards 2009.
