Apparently a cabinet reduction of an altarpiece by il Cigoli in Saint Peter's, Rome. Cigoli "first went to Rome to begin St Peter healing the cripple for St Peter's, a prestigious commission obtained through the offices of the Grand Duke (slate, 1604-6; dismantled)." (Grove dictionary of art)
