About this work

Description

Hand-drawn illustration using ink and watercolour on paper. 'The Stuff of Dreams' depicts a female patient lying on her back under the influence of anaesthesia. A mask covers her nose and mouth and IV fluid bags are coiled around her body. Following hip-replacement surgery, the artist recorded her experiences and emotions during her post-operative recovery. Whilst under the influence of anaesthesia, the patient temporarily surrenders control as their surroundings disappear and their consciousness fades.
