In the performance of this unpleasant duty a detective was badly bitten on the hand by one of the lepers who resisted re-arrest. 54. Owing to the frequency of abscondments it was found necessary to clear the dense secondary jungle in the immediate vicinity of the Male Asylum. 55. It was also found necessary owing to some of the inmates assaulting the attendants to place a constable on duty owr the gate. 56. The grounds have been well kept. 57.
