This film seeks to dispel received notions about sleeping sickness, explaining that this disease, which is invariably fatal unless treated and was eradicated in Angola more than 20 years ago, has now reappeared. The standard drug treatment, which has not changed for 40 years, is so toxic that it kills between 5-10% of patients, but the pharmaceutical industry has little financial interest in researching and developing new medicines.
