    One case of statutory overcro%7ding v;as fo\md and this was abated. Houses Let in Lodgings Five houses are knovm to be let in lodgings. One application for 'Discretionary’ and forty- three applications for 'Standard' improvement grants were received diiring the year, compared with none and thirty- four respectively during the preceding year. New Houses Thirty-six new houses were built by private enterprise during the year and seventy-aie by the Council compared with forty-nine and thirty-t?;o respectively during the previous year. The seventy-one new dwellings provided by the Local authority during the year included fifty dwellings for old people on the Half Acre site, by which provision the Council has fully met the need for this type of accommodation in the tovm, in respect to which it is to be congratulated. Ninety-two families were housed hy the Council during the year, compared with thirty-four during the preceding year.
