    believe, it formerly was that any case of multiple Deuritis affecting the lower extremities is necessarily due to alcohol. It is notorious that those most addicted to alcohol are not always the ones that suffer from neuritis. Given exciting cause or causes of polyneuritis it is evident that all persons are not equally affected by them, some being more liable than others (for instance, women more so than men). In those who are specially predisposed it is probable that tuberculosis (or rather a toxsemic condition arising from pulmonary consumption), like several other microbic diseases, may act as an exciting cause in association with alcohol or even independently.
