About this work

Description

One of the many magazine inserts advertising Pears' Soap probably dating from the 1880s. This consists of a man's hand holding a large amount of gold and silver coins and what looks like a cheque with Pears' printed on it in red, decorative type. A few gold coins are falling. The text is a handwritten script above and below the illustration. The coins in particular are relief embossed to make them look more real and bring out the reflective qualities of the metallic inks.
