About this work

Description

Bible. Apocrypha. Tobit 2. Tobit's son Tobias holds his hand upon his father's knee. Tobit holds out his left hand to two women, one of whom is probably his wife, who now has to work for a living because of his disability. On the far left she brings home the goat which was given to her as a gift with her wages, but which her husband believed she had stolen. The domestic argument that followed resulted in her bitterly complaining about her new situation as a working wife. Tobit repented wretchedly and went blind shortly after, apparently due to a falling sparrow's dung
