Description
François Ravaillac assassinated King Henri IV of France in 1610. He was tortured, drawn and quartered. He died on 27 May 1610 in Paris. He is portrayed raising a dagger in his right hand. Above right, roundels containing portraits of Henri IV, his consort Marie de Médicis, and his son King Louis XIII as a boy. In the background, the torture of Ravaillac before a large crowd of spectators
