Measles and German Measles.—These diseases' are not notifiable in Camberwell. The principal means of obtaining information with regard to them is through the medium of the school absences returns and the health visitors. The number of cases that came to our notice during the year was considerably less than in 1922. The number of deaths recorded was 35, as compared with 84 in 1922. Every case that comes to the knowledge of the department is visited, and the parents advised of the necessity of seeking the assistance of a doctor. Strict isolation as far as possible is insisted on, and where necessary the services of a district nurse are provided. Whooping Cough.—The number of deaths from this disease was 30, as compared with 80 in the previous year. It is satisfactory to record a decrease in the number of deaths from this cause, but, as will be observed from the following table, the mortality rate is still very high among children under 5 years of age.
