About this work

Description

A 1960s Chinese production on methods of contraception at a time when the Chinese government was starting to become aware of the distinct disadvantages of a large population. This appears to be one of the first communist Chinese birth control productions. Up to this point Mao had been extolling the virtues and strengths that a large population brings to a country. The posters cover the various methods of female and male contraception albeit from a rather coy perspective in keeping with the puritan morals of the time. It is to be assumed that the posters were used as an education aid for both urban and rural audiences
