About this work
Description
The newly completed (in 1762) sculpture around the fountain includes two Tritons with horses drawing the chariot of Neptune (in the central niche), with personifications of Abundance (with a cornucopia, left) and Hygieia (holding a spear, right: the snake around a tree is not shown) in the side niches: all are associated with water. Above are statues of the four seasons, and at the top the achievement of arms of the Corsini family. Several groups of people are shown in conversation around the perimeter of the fountain. On the right, on the corner of Via della Stamperia and Via del Lavatore, is a wall shrine: two sculpted angels hold up a radiant halo containing an image of the Virgin
