    IN this second edition of my recent work, I thought it advisable to add a Chapter on Contraception. This subject is here discussed solely from the medical and not from the social-economic standpoint. My object in introducing this subject is because Contraception has become one of great interest and is at present widely discussed not only in medical periodicals but also in non-medical literature such as the public press and in numerous high class magazines. Therefore it is absolutely essential that the medical practitioner be fully informed on ' the various phases of the subject, so that he can readily answer ques¬ tions which his patients may put to him, and intelligently discuss with them the various problems which may arise about it. But this is not the only reason, or even the most important one, for introducing this subject. Scattered throughout this work, I have given instances showing how at times the practice of contraception may be the cause of serious sexual neuroses in both the male and female; how it may lead to impotence in the male and unhappiness to both the husband and wife; and how it may organically affect the sex organs in the female, leading not only to inflammations of the uterus, the tubes and ovaries, but how it also may be. the direct cause of temporary or even permanent sterility in the female. I have therefore thought it advisable to bring all these facts together in one single chapter, so that the reader may have the whole subject before him at the same time. In this new edition I have also enlarged upon the subject of the treatment of Impotence in the Male, by citing my experience with the use of the latest and most potent hormones for this condition. In connection with this latter subject, I wish to express my thanks to the editor of the Medical Record for permitting me to insert herein a portion of a paper of mine on this subject which appeared in that Journal. I hope that these new additions to the first edition may fully justify the bringing out of this second edition of the work. Max Huhner 88 Central Park West
