About this work

Description

Watercolour drawing of the right hand of a female patient, aged 25 years, whose left median nerve had been accidentally divided three years previously. The patient was the subject of phthisis. The right hand has long tapering fingers, the nails are curved and the thumb is slightly bulbous. In comparison, the left hand had glossy fingers with nails which were too greatly curved. The index and middle fingers were wasted, and their movement was impaired, the abductor and part of the flexor brevis pollicis muscles were wasted.
