    I its adling as a mercurial without in¬ ducing inflammation, and partly from the gum arabic accompanying it. From thefe and a variety of other inftances which I could mention, I was fufficiently convinced of the ef¬ ficacy of this preparation of Mr. Plenk’s, and that it had even ad¬ vantages over mo ft others. How¬ ever, I confldered it as ftill fubjedt to the inconveniency of being un¬ equally prepared at different times, from the impoffibility of afcertaining the degree of triture employed, on which its efficacy fo much depended. I therefore had recourfe to the pre¬ cipitate from calomel, after finding out, by experiment, that it was the fame in every refpedt with the grey- ifh powder obtained by triture, on which the medical virtues of Mr.- Plenck’s
