Description
Ink and brush drawing from a handwritten copy of the anonymous text Dingchuang yaojue (Essential Art of Boils), executed in 1874 (13th year of the Tongzhi reign period of the Qing dynasty). You ding (oily boil) occurs at the hairline at the back of the neck, around the occipital bone. It is treated by needling and opening (tiaoci) at the jianjing (Shoulder Well) location. Eryong (ear abscess) is a type of deep-rooted boil that occurs in the philtrum (renzhong, Man's Middle). It is treated by needling and opening at yintang (Hall of Seals), dihe (Earthly Union), and in the third section of the spinal vertebrae.
