    It has been my object, in the following pages to present a sys¬ tematic yet condensed view of the particular branch of pathology of which they treat. In pursuit of the end proposed, I have not only drawn from the stores of my own experience, but have freely used whatever additional information has recently been given to the public, under the name or with the sanction of the highest autho¬ rities on cutaneous diseases, whether of this country or the conti¬ nent. The writings of Lorry,1 Plenck,2 Willan,3 Bateman,4 Alibert,5 Plumbe,6 Rayer,7 and Cazenave and Scliedel,8 I have constantly consulted. To the later French writers especially I have been indebted for many hints in the matter of arrangement, and occa¬ sionally for assistance in my definitions, and now and then in my descriptions, of those diseases which are of rarer occurrence, and with which i am consequently less familiar myself.
