National Assistance Acts, 1948 and 1951 : In addition to statutory action for the continued detention of three females removed to hospital or Part HI accommodation in previous years, action was taken in respect of two cases, one male and one female under the provisions of the National Assistance (Amend- ment) Act, 1951. In one case a male person aged 60 was found living in a derelict building and in need of medical care; removal to hospital was effected where he died shortly afterwards. In the other case concerning a female aged 85, bedridden and referred by her own doctor as requiring urgent medical care, an order was also obtained but was not enforced as it was found inexpedient to do so, and such assistance as was possible continued to be given in her own home. 10 other aged persons referred to the Medical Officer of Health were under supervision during the year. 10. Local Government Superannuation Act, 1937 : Medical Examination : Medical examinations for Superannuation purposes are under- taken by the Medical Officer of Health.
