I have met cases where even symptoms of angina pectoris seemed to arise from its use, and where amend- ment at once followed when it was given up. At the present day there is such a cry out against the use of strong drinks that many are induced to try milk. Of the two I would say that strong drinks—taken, of course, in moderation—do far less mischief than milk. The composition of the latter, and the ease with which it can be drunk and then digested, accounts for its effects. In the next chapter there will be occasion to revert to the effects of food, whether liquid or solid, on the frame.
