Description
Geology, being Chaptal's account of the stony substances of the world: illustrated with the most modern discoveries and analyses: also with notes and a preface explanatory of the true system of the universe, and of the decompositions and renovations of the globe which we inhabit. Author's holograph, and unpublished MS. Chaptal's 'Éléments de chimie', of a section of which this MS. is a translation and commentary, was published in 1790.

Biographical note
Toulmin was M.D. of Edinburgh and published 'The eternity of the universe' in 1789, which was a greatly revised edition of his 'The antiquity and duration of the world', first issued in 1780.
