About this work

Description

Sarah Gaitley is a UK thalidomider whose parents were closely involved in the early battles for compensation, despite their own poor education. She believes that stress from this time caused her father to have serious health problems. She also talks movingly about bullying at school and her struggle to find a job. Sarah is in a stable long-term marriage with two sons, one of whom is autistic. She continues to be an active member of the Thalidomide Society as well as holding disability awareness workshops through her local church. Parts 1 and 2 of the interviews took place in Sarah’s home in Bracknell on 15 November 2012. Part 3 took place in Sarah’s home on 24 January 2013.
