About this work

Description

Shows group of plants with green pinnately divided leaves clusters of yellow button flowers. Used to be eaten at Easter as a blood purifier after the Lenten fast, mixed into a pudding made with milk, eggs and flour. The plant has a strong odour and was traditionally rubbed onto meat to ward off bluebottles and on corpses to keep away earthworms.
