Papers and audio material relating to and generated by the Laboratory Technicians Oral History Project. This includes material such as cassettes, survey questionnaires, interview transcripts, copyright clearance forms, photographs, and CVs. Covering dates are generally 1998-2002 but there is some material dating back to the 1940s where interviewees deposited additional background material with their interview.

Biographical note

The Wellcome Trust awarded a grant to Professor Tilli Tansey, of the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at UCL, to conduct an oral history project involving medical laboratory technicians. This project ran from 1996-2001, and involved nearly a hundred laboratory technicians. These technicians were based in a variety of organisations including research laboratories (such as the National Institute for Medical Research), commercial laboratories (such as the Wellcome Foundation), Oxford University pathology and biochemistry laboratories, and hospital laboratories in Oxford and North London.
