About this work
Description
A rather technical film which uses the premise of a dramatised lecture to doctors in white coats (all male) to review the anatomical and physiological background for the rational use of drugs which act on the 'autonomic nervous system'. 'Situational stress' is described and the causes of stress-related illnesses mapped using attractive medical illustrations (eg. from the back to the brain and there on to the eye etc.) which are rationalised in this way. The cure for stress is recommended to be to reduce exposure. However, it is recognised that this is not possible and sometimes surgery is proposed (which often has limited success). A neurotic female patient is shown with her doctor; she is prescribed antacid tablets - dosages can be increased. The prescription of certain drugs is 'to serve humanity better'.
