Biographical note
Born Ordiquhill, a parish 6 miles south south west of Portsoy, Scotland. Wilson emigrated to New York in 1763 before settling in New Jersey. He was Professor of Greek and Latin at Columbia and published several textbooks on Latin and Greek; was LLD and a member of the New Jersey legislature in 1777. In 1783 he was appointed to revise and codify the laws of the State of New York.
