    reference to the want of means of communicating with the Engineer, in case of fire, the Superintendent considers that some means should he provided to meet this requirement. WATER SUPPLY. Your Committee are glad to be enabled to report to the Court that the means of supplying water to the Asylum from the Willow Spring are now in a very complete and satisfactory state, the supply being most ample, and the quality of the water good, being bright, clear, and free from deposit. All the Ponds into which the water flows from the Springs have been enclosed and covered in, and the drains re-arranged, so that nothing which can contaminate the water can now get into it, and the Medical Superintendent informs your Committee that he considers great credit is due to the Engineer of the Asylum for the very efficient manner in which he has carried out the work connected with the improvements at the Willow Spring. FENCING ALONGSIDE THE MAIN ROAD ON THE NORTHERN BOUNDARY OF THE ASYLUM. This Fencing has for a long time past been in a bad condition, and your Committee have, at several of their Meetings, considered the expediency of amending or replacing the same, and at length have determined to remove about one-half of the chestnut trees growing upon the ground next to this fence, so as to make room for the proper growth of the remaining trees, and to erect, in lieu of this Fence, a strong Wire Fence, five feet high, with proper standards, and to plant Privet to grow up within such Fence ; and your Committee have accordingly disposed of 14 of these trees, and the Purchaser has removed them, and the Fencing will shortly be fixed ; and your Committee find that the sale money received for the trees sold will more than defray the cost of the Wire Fencing and fixing it. Your Committee have to state that, since their last Report, two of their Members, namely, William Schoolcroft Burton, Esquire, and Baron Ferdinand James de Rothschild, have resigned, and they have to express their regret at the loss of a third and valuable Member, by death, namely, John Edward Bartlett, Esq. In the Appendix No. 1 will be found an Abstract of the Treasurer’s Account, as to the Repayment of Instalments of the Principal monies borrowed, and the Interest thereon.
