An Improved Artificial Light Reflector. I, Joseph Spence Grant of 4 Recreation Street, Bolton in the County of Lancaster, Engineer, do hereby declare the nature of my said invention to be as follows :— This invention relates to an improved artificial-light reflector and is designed for use in bed and sick rooms and other places where it is requisite to concentrate light supplied from coal-gas, and electricity, or from wax night lights or their equivalents on any given object, such as, a clock, watch, or other articles, and consists in mounting a polished concaved disc in a metal or other suitable frame or tube. The frame or tube is secured to a hinged clip for the purpose of attaching the same to a gas pipe or other fixing or article supporting the light or otherwise, which also allows of its being altered in position when a full light is required in the room. The hinged clip allows of the disc and frame or tube being swivelled to entirely obscure the light from every part of the room except the article it is concentrated upon. The disc is so constructed that a very small light will brilliantly illuminate the object it is directed upon, leaving the rest of the room in absolute darkness. Dated the 18th January 1889. EDMUND CHADWICK, Agent. COMPLETE SPECIFICATION. An Improved Artificial Light Reflector. I, Joseph Spence Grant of 4 Recreation Street, Bolton, in the County of Lancaster, Engineer, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement:— The object of this invention is to illuminate, with the aid of a small flame of gas or other artificial light, any article, or portion of bedroom or other appartment, and obscure the remainder of such appartment. To effect this purpose, I employ a concave reflector of suitable diameter, (and made of silvered glass, or metal) suspended in a grooved rim of metal, with two projecting ends, to which is attached an arm, thus forming a hinge, one end of the arm is formed to fit any shape or size of burner. In order that this invention may be clearly understood, reference is made to the accompanying drawings in which :— Fig. 1 represents the invention as applied to an ordinary gas burner. Fig. 2. is the invention shown in section, in Fig. 2. B is a grooved strip of metal which forms a circular rim from which the ends D. D. project, A. is the concave reflector held in the grooved rim B. C is an arm formed from two pieces of metal, and hollowed to fit any shape or size of burner, E is a solid rivet with which the two pieces C. are fastened, F. is a tubular rivet which connects the arm C to the ends of the rim at D. D. the same forming a hinge, so that B. and A. may be set at any angle, and if not required as a reflector it can be turned backwards out of the way.
