About this work

Description

Photomacrograph of a silverfish or fish moth (Lepisma saccharina) viewed from the front. They are elongated, wingless insects with silver metallic scales and antennae as long as their body. They live in dark, damp areas and feed on carbohydrates found in paper, textiles and other dead insects. This destructive feeding behaviour makes them pests in the home and in museum collections. Width of image is 13-30 mm.
