It will be seen that by this method, the increase of popula¬ tion appears very large, but looking at the altered aspect of the town, i.e. altered by the continual growth of new houses, it is to be expected that the population is a rapidlly increasing one. This is 12 more than last year. Calculated on the estimated population the birth-rate is 1915 per 1000, as compared with 19‘53 for last year. This is again considerably below the average of the country at large, and of the other towns and districts in the county of Warwick; the rate in which for 1896 (the last year for which statistics are as yet available) was 28'54. Ten births were registered as illegitimate, compared with seven in 1896 and six in 1895.
