    as much for the benefit and instruction of the public, and for their guidance in the choice of operators and materials, as for the information of our respectable profes- sional brethren at home and abroad; many of whom are unaware of the extent to which the substitution of inferior and deleterious materials is carried, to the detriment of the dental art in the eyes of the world. To the public, who have been lately en- lightened to some extent by the publica- tion in the newspapers of cases, in which serious injury, local and constitutional, has been inflicted on individuals, together with gross fraud upon their pockets, we com- mend the attentive perusal of the plain and impartial detail we have put before them of the illegitimate practices resorted to by quacks and pretenders, and the proper and legitimate process by which the skilful and intelligent dental practitioner can hope suc- cessfully to supply the defects of age, acci-
