About this work

Description

One of the activities of friendly societies in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was the organization of insurance against sickness. In the engraving, the sick man receives a coin from one of the officers of the society. A copy of this poster, headed "Rules", is posted up on the wall near the sick man's bed
