About this work

Description

Klebsiella pneumonia: plain chest x-ray This chest x-ray demonstrates extensive consolidation of the left lung with apical cavitation. There is also some segmental consolidation of the right upper lobe. This patient had failed to respond to therapeutic trials of ampicillin and antituberculous treatment. Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated from a sputum sample. Necrotizing pneumonias with cavitation may progress rapidly. The patient is usually very short of breath and toxic. Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae are common causes. See record number W0045334 for an earlier x-ray.
