About this work

Description

A team of scientists and business people come together to discuss the industry and science behind hair care today. Hair stylists discuss the importance of hair in terms of people's personal identities and light-hearted terms such as having a 'bad hair day' can actually be something that can psychologically make or break someone's day. Experiments on different hair types using different hair products are conducted and assessed. Dr Laura Waters is a scientist who analyses the effectiveness of specific hair products at different price points - cheap, mid range and high range at over £40 a bottle. The long-term effects of heat on the hair are analysed, genetic factors affecting hair ageing (and the discovery of a grey hair gene IRF4) are assessed and we see a hair transplant operation, which is not currently available on the NHS.
