Take of Opium, four ounces; Distilled Vinegar, sixteen fluidoun- ces ; Cut the Opium into small fragments, tritu- rate it into a pulp with a little of the vine- gar, add the rest of the vinegar, macerate in a closed vessel for seven days, and agitate occasionally. Then strain and express strong- ly, and filter the liquor. Acetum scillae. Take of dried Squill, in small fragments, five ounces ; Distilled Vinegar, two pints; Proof-spirit, three fluidounces ; Macerate the Squill in the vinegar for seven days in a covered glass vessel, strain and express the liquor, add the spirit, and filter the whole.
