Lettering

The cholera epidemic in Japan: the removal of the dead under police supervision. ... Meisenbach ; C E Fripp. Kobé- Lettering continues: " 'The cholera epidemic is of annual occurrence in Japan owing to the insanitary conditions of life prevalent all over the country. The police are strict regarding precautions against the spread of disease, and punctiliously observe the prescribed regulations, as may be observed in the drawing, where a policeman--or gendarme, rather, for the Japanese have no police like our British force--is supervising the removal of a corpse, which, packed tightly in a tub, according to Japanese custom, is about to be carried off to be cremated'"
