Four performances were given as the Royal Music Festival in Westminster Abbey on 24, 26 and 28 June and 1 July 1834, conducted by Sir George Smart. The performances were all three-part concerts of sacred music, the fourth being a performance of Handel, The Messiah. The second and third concerts both included the first English performances of arias by Mozart (from David Penitente and the Litany in B flat). Proceeds were divided between the Royal Society of Musicians, The New Musical and Choral Funds and the Royal Academy of Music.
