About this work

Description

Taking as its starting point the murder of four children by hospital nurse Beverley Allot, Public Eye questions the accuracy of hospital death certificates. Only the immediate cause of death is stated; events leading up to death are not taken into account - an omission which, it is claimed, allowed Nurse Allot to continue undetected after the death of her first victim. The programme examines the procedure for completing hospital death certificates and reveals dissatisfaction among the junior doctors to whom this task is often delegated, as well as among relatives of the deceased.
