Description

Report to the Minister of the Interior on the position of public education in France, and especially on the 'Collèges royaux', resulting from the reduction of their budgetary allowances. The two leaves are in 4to. (24 x 181/2 cm.) and contain notes by Royer-Collard on the salaries of teachers, etc. The Report is also signed by Georges Léopold Chrétien Frédéric Dagobert de Cuvier [1769-1852], Denis Luc Freyssinous [1765-1841], Philibert Gueneau de Mussy [1776-1834], and Antoine Isaac Silvestre de Sacy [1758-1838]. On the first leaf the Minister-Élie Decazes, Duke of Glucksbourg [1780-1860] has written 'J'ai répondu verbalement'. Produced in Paris.

Biographical note

Royer-Collard, a French statesman of some eminence, had at first favoured the Revolution, but later retired from public life. He was appointed professor of philosophy at the University of France by Napoleon in 1809, and was Président de la Chambre 1828-1842.
